HON OGUNDIPE ENGAGES RESIDENTS, STAKEHOLDERS ON CONSTRUCTION OF NETWORK OF ROADS IN OSHODI
Residents of several streets in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-01 on Wednesday gathered for a stakeholders’ engagement meeting with the Member representing the constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, popularly known as Omoj’Omolo, to deliberate on the planned construction of a network of roads within the community.
The meeting, which was held at his constituency office on Wednesday, March 4, brought together community leaders, residents, government representatives and the project contractor to discuss the proposed road construction project that will cover Alhaji Sokoya Street, Deji Adeoye Street, Baba Ode Street and OluwaSanmi Street in Oshodi.
Hon. Ogundipe, who represents Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-01 in the state legislature, attended the meeting alongside a technical team led by Engr. Akeem Salau and the contractor handling the project. The engagement was organized to ensure that residents and key stakeholders are adequately informed and carried along in the planning and execution process.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ogundipe clarified that as a lawmaker he is not part of the executive arm responsible for direct project execution. However, he explained that his role as the elected representative of the people is to advocate for developmental projects and ensure that the needs of the constituency receive the attention of the appropriate government agencies.
According to him, the road construction project came about following repeated requests from residents of the affected streets, which he subsequently presented to the state government for consideration.
He disclosed that he took the responsibility of forwarding the community’s request to the Office of Infrastructure under the Ministry of Works, which approved the project for execution as part of the state’s ongoing infrastructural development efforts.
The lawmaker assured residents that their interests and concerns would continue to be represented throughout the implementation process, emphasizing that the project reflects the collective demand of the community for improved road infrastructure.
Hon. Ogundipe also acknowledged that the construction process may temporarily disrupt daily activities within the neighborhood. He noted that certain residents and property owners could experience some level of inconvenience during the construction phase.
Despite this, he urged residents to cooperate with the contractors and project team, stressing that the long-term benefits of a properly constructed road network, including improved mobility, better drainage, enhanced safety, and increased property value would greatly outweigh the temporary discomfort.
Representing the Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Akeem provided a detailed breakdown of the road construction plan and its specifications in the presence of the contractor handling the project.
While addressing residents during the engagement, Engr. Akeem disclosed the key features of the project, emphasizing that the construction meets the standard specifications of the Lagos State Government.
According to him, the road will span 7.5 metres in width and will be complemented with concrete drainage systems, pedestrian walkways, piping setbacks, and streetlights across all four networks of roads included in the project.
“This is a Lagos State Government standard project. It is 7.5 metres wide with concrete drainage, walkways, piping setbacks and streetlights in all the four networks of roads. You have Hon. Ogundipe to thank for facilitating this project in the constituency,” he said.
Residents who spoke during the engagement expressed appreciation to the lawmaker and the state government for bringing the much-needed infrastructure development to the area, noting that the road construction will significantly improve mobility, reduce flooding challenges, and stimulate economic activities within the community.
The residents also pledged their support and cooperation to ensure the successful completion of the project for the benefit of all residents in Oshodi/Isolo Constituency-01.
The stakeholders’ meeting concluded with assurances from the project team that communication would remain open with residents as the construction progresses, ensuring transparency and cooperation throughout the execution of the road network project in Oshodi.
