BREAST CANCER IS NOT A DEATH SENTENCE – HON OGUNDIPE
The lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode (OMOJ’OMOLO), has declared that breast cancer is not a death sentence for any health-conscious woman.
He made this assertion during the Breast Cancer Awareness and Medical Outreach Programme organized by OMOJ’OMOLO CARES, his personal health and welfare initiative, in collaboration with the Surgical Interest Group (SURGIL). The event, held in Oshodi, Lagos, provided free screening and medical services to over 250 women in a bid to promote early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
Hon. Ogundipe emphasized that one of the major health challenges facing women is late detection, stressing that early screening remains the most effective way to save lives. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting health-focused initiatives within the Oshodi-Isolo community, describing good health as the foundation for a productive and progressive society.
“That’s the reason why we decided to bring this initiative to their doorsteps to help them know their status. If you are free, you’ll have peace of mind, and if you’re not, early detection gives you a better chance of recovery. That’s exactly what we have done for our people,” Hon. Ogundipe stated.
Over 45 doctors and consultants were on ground to attend to participants and educate them on healthy living practices.
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Somolu Constituency II, Hon. Samuel Apata, highlighted the importance of regular monthly breast self-examinations, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and seeking prompt medical advice when unusual lumps are noticed.
The President of the Surgical Interest Group (SURGIL), Dr. Oluwadarasimi Adeboyeku, dispelled the misconception that breast cancer is a death sentence, urging women to embrace early screening and treatment.
“Don’t be afraid; it’s not a death sentence. Come to clinics and outreach programmes like this to get your breasts examined. Early detection prevents complications and saves lives,” Dr. Adeboyeku advised.
The event, held at The Clinic, All Saints Anglican Church, 1 Mabayoje Street, Oshodi, Lagos, featured a range of free preventive and medical services, including:
Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Checks
Clinical and Self-Breast Examinations
Free Ultrasound Scans
Free Mammograms
Free Medications
Health Talks and Counseling by Medical Experts
This impactful outreach once again reflected Hon. Ogundipe’s unwavering dedication to building a healthier Oshodi-Isolo community through initiatives that emphasize preventive healthcare, awareness, and compassion.
