LAGOS ASSEMBLY MEMBER,HON OGUNDIPE SAYS YOUTH EMPOWERMENT NOT OPTIONAL
Member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. (Otunba) Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode (OMOJ’OMOLO), has declared that youth empowerment is not a matter of choice but a critical investment for the future of Lagos and Nigeria at large.
Speaking on the topic "Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future" during a special programme organised by Hon Taiwo Ayedun led Progressive Youths Initiative (PYI), Oshodi-Isolo Local Government to commemorate the 2025 International Youth Day themed “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond”, Hon. Ogundipe underscored the vital role of young people as “leaders now, not just leaders of tomorrow”. He emphasized that equipping youths with education, skills, resources, and opportunities is essential to building a socially equitable, economically vibrant, and environmentally sustainable future.
“Youths are the heartbeat of any thriving society, the seeds of prosperity, innovation, and leadership,” he said. “Empowering them is not optional; it is a necessary foundation for peace, progress, and inclusive growth in our constituency, our state, and our nation.”
Outlining his vision for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-01, Hon. Ogundipe pledged grassroots-driven initiatives including community-based skill acquisition centres, digital literacy programs, microcredit schemes for start-ups, youth advisory councils, and structured sports and creative development pathways. He also stressed the importance of mental health, social protection, and civic participation in fostering responsible and resilient young leaders.
The lawmaker aligned his plans with key Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting commitments to expand access to quality education (SDG 4), promote decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), strengthen youth participation in governance (SDG 16), and build green economy skills for climate action (SDG 13).
Reaffirming his commitment, Hon. Ogundipe promised to champion youth-focused legislation, attract strategic partnerships, and ensure accountability in constituency youth programs.
“To the youths of Oshodi-Isolo, the future is not something that will come to you, it is something you must actively build. Your dreams are valid, your energy is needed, and your voice is powerful,” he charged.
The event, which brought together community stakeholders, political leaders, and vibrant young people from across the constituency, ended with a resounding call for collective action by government, private sector, and civil society to make youth empowerment a permanent reality.
